This is just a little WNBA appreciation video I made because the women’s game is really a beautiful thing. I wish more people would give it a chance. It’s unselfish, smart, and creative basketball played by crazy talented athletes.

Storm Acquires No. 2 Overall Draft Pick
Trade sends Cash, Willingham to Chicago Sky

Your Seattle Storm has picked up the No. 2 pick in the WNBA Draft in a trade with Chicago Sky. In return, the Sky acquires forwards Swin Cash and Le’coe Willingham and the 23rd overall pick in the second round.

“We’ve spent a lot of time analyzing our current needs and what it will take to win another championship. We believe this trade positions us for short- and long-term success by adding a lottery pick and creating a substantial amount of salary cap space for free agency,” said Storm Head Coach and General Manager Brian Agler. “We are very thankful for Swin and Le’coe’s contributions to the success of the Storm, including the critical roles they played in helping us win the 2010 championship.”

Much as we will miss Swin and Le’Coe, Coach Agler is confident this trade creates an exciting future for the Storm as we move into 2012 and beyond.

We have not had a top-four pick in the draft since selecting Lauren Jackson and Sue Bird with the top picks in 2001 and 2002, respectively. We last picked better than 10th in 2007 (No. 7 overall) and have never held the No. 2 pick. Past second picks include Alana Beard (2004), Sylvia Fowles (2008) and Cappie Pondexter (2006).

We acquired Cash on Feb. 19, 2008 from the Detroit Shock in exchange for the No. 4 pick in the 2008 Draft. During four seasons in Seattle, Cash averaged 12.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. She represented the Storm in the 2009 and 2011 All-Star Games, earning MVP honors both times. Willingham, signed as a free agent from the Phoenix Mercury on Feb. 9, 2010, averaged 6.0 points and 4.2 rebounds during two seasons with the Storm. Both players helped us win the 2010 WNBA championship.

Gonna miss Swin and Le’coe for sure.. I hope everything will turn out great for us.. #GoStorm
