Andy

bryst:

Exhausted, but not despondent.

I was really sad when he lost the match to Djokovic, but at the same time I feel like I’m seeing a new Andy these days. He comported himself so well throughout the match, truly never giving up and fighting like a champion—he didn’t get too rattled from his mistakes and kept his composure and bounced back, fighting to the very end. The second and third sets were thrilling—I don’t think I’ve ever seen Andy claw his way back with that kind of sheer determination. A total 180 from the discouraged Andy we saw last year.

I really hope that he takes this as a sign that he’s on the right track and that big victories are within his reach. It will be very interesting to see how Lendl influences him—so far it looks like it’s working mentally at least.

Which is to say, I’m so proud of him! Watching this match, even though he lost in the end, has made me believe that he really has the belief and heart that a champion needs.

I think with this new attitude and belief, plus what I see as an amazingly improved mental game, it’s only a matter of time before he wins a Slam. I hope it’s this year!
